ENV SESSION & STYLE GUIDE

Look good, feel good.

When you start deciding on outfits, I suggest starting with Mom and then working out from there. Whether you want to purchase all new clothes, or you want to use clothes you already have and love, it's a great place to start. Once you start with mom (or your hardest person to dress!) then you can pull your colors and textures and build up from. Another good starting point is to think of the colors in your home (these images will be on your walls after all) or maybe your favorite color, then go from there.

Do

  • Decide on a color scheme and stick to it! Pinterest is great for searching for color palettes. Find 2-3 complementary colors and have all members of your group wear something in those color families.

  • Patterns are okay, just not for every person in your group! Make it interesting with different textures and fabrics.

  • Dress the kids in what they like to wear. Be cautious with new outfits - uncomfy kids make bad photos.

  • We may be sitting on the ground at times, so clothing should be comfortable and allow you to move and sit down.  Just watch the length of your skirts and dress so that you can sit.

  • Prepare your family! Tell them you will be “hanging out with our friend Beck on Tuesday after school!” and keep things fun, lighthearted, and casual.

  • Make sure everyone gets a good nights sleep, good naps and eats a good meal before hand, hangry people hate having their photo taken!!

  • Come into your session with an open mind. Sometimes having photos done can be nerve racking. Come into the session with an open mind and experience it all with me! My goal for when you look back on your session is for you to feel happy, confident and nostalgic.

Do NOT

  • Avoid character themed clothing or any clothing with graphics or large prints

  • Don't pair too many patterns together. If you do decide to wear a pattern make sure it's not overwhelming or distracting and mix it with the corresponding solid or add layers for texture.

  • Matching outfits are super cute, I know, but they can also seem very redundant and dare I say boring. Having different colors, patterns, textures, etc is super important to create interest and diversity in your family's images. Don't try to match or wear the same color. Instead choose outfits and colors that compliment each other.

  • Don’t forget the snacks! This is probably the most important tip, food is my favorite form of bribery and we cant have you forget it. If your child has a favorite snack (gummies, crackers etc) bring an extra pack along so we can get that magic smile!!!!

  • Avoid NEON colors. Neon will reflect color onto your face and graphics can be distracting.

What will we do at our session?

Your session is about capturing your connections with each other, away from the chaos and noise and busyness of your life.  We are catching this moment in time, whatever it authentically is.

While I will ask you to look at me, most of the time I will ask you to look at each other and enjoy being with each other.  Really look at your loved one(s) and see in them what makes you love them!

Don’t stress if the kids don’t want to participate sometimes…. I will do my very best to make the session relaxed and fun for everyone so that smiles are not a rarity and your kids’ true selves shine through.

During your session, we will be standing up, sitting down, laying down, tickling, hugging, kissing, snuggling and maybe singing and dancing, jumping and running. Low stress. And while smiles are great, laughter is even better!
